National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) science test, which has been administered across the nation in recent weeks, includes an interactive computer feature, given to a subset of children. This section of the test aims to assess student skills and understanding, such as "the ability to formulate and and perform experiments," that cannot easily be tested in other ways.
The new NAEP test has students making decisions and drawing conclusions based on data stemming from experiments. This, test writers hope, allows for "a better measure of depth of knowledge."
This may prove to be a way to combine skills, conceptual understanding, and objectivity.
